FORMING CHRIST CENTERED PILGRIMS OF HOPE

Inspiring Young Minds at Saint Wulstan’s!

Last Friday, Olympic Judo star Nekoda Davis visited our school! She led an assembly and fun circuit training activities for all children. Check out the photos on our Facebook page!

Our Forest School adventures are thriving! Reception and Years 3 & 4 have been exploring the outdoors, and we’re excited to share that Mrs Morgan and Mr Tasker are completing their Forest School qualifications. This means all pupils will get to enjoy Forest School this year!

We aim to bring learning alive at Saint Wulstan’s and enable every child to get the chance to explore, grow, and be inspired!

Transport Meeting from Stourport to Hagley – Friday 12th February at 5:30pm

We are holding a meeting to discuss possible transport provision from Stourport to Hagley. The meeting can be attended in person or virtually.

Ahead of the meeting, we will complete a costing exercise to discuss potential transport costs, and a data analysis to look at the number of pupils who may apply to Hagley in the coming years. Mr Hodgson will be attending to answer questions and provide advice.

Who can attend:

  • Parents of pupils who already attend Hagley

  • Parents of children from Reception to Year 6, so we can gauge interest for future years

Please confirm your attendance and let us know whether you will attend in person or if you need a Microsoft Teams link by emailing ebrocklesby@emmausmac.com.

After the transport meeting, we will hold a short discussion about setting up a PTA at Saint Wulstan's. This is a great opportunity to develop our school community and work together to support our children and families.

We look forward to seeing you there!

A THIRST FOR KNOWLEDGE

Message From Mrs Warnett

Reception

Reception have had a wonderfully creative week! On Wednesday, they made the most of the sunshine by heading outdoors to check how our bulbs were growing and were thrilled to see the first signs of sprouting — a hopeful sign that spring is on its way. This sparked a lovely discussion about daffodils and spring, which then inspired some impromptu drawing and painting.

Today, the children explored patterns and texture, using pastels to recreate a range of animal prints. In RE, they have continued learning about Baptism, and they have also begun practising their songs in preparation for the music festival in March.

Well done, Reception!

KS1

Year 1 and 2 have been learning all about healthy bodies in science and PSHE. The children learnt the names of body parts and discussed how important and special our bodies are. They looked at different food groups to help them understand how much of different foods they should be eating. They have been sorting foods into different groups to help their understanding. They have been keeping a food diary to help them see what they eat over a week. In English the class have been reading and writing about 'The Paper Bag Princess' by Robert Munsch. The children have loved the funny and exciting story and have been very proud of their 'Star Write' this week. Well done, everyone! In maths the class have been comparing calculations, using = and more than/less than symbols. In PE, the children have been putting their knowledge of rolls into routines. They have especially enjoyed doing 'teddy bear' rolls! In art, the class have started a new unit on painting, looking at colour mixing this week. The children had to recall the primary colours from their learning last year and work in groups to mix to create secondary colours. The children loved experimenting with the paints to create different tones. Well done on a lovely week!

Year 3 / Year 4

This week, The children have been building on skills and knowledge from last week. In art, the children used their paint mixing skills to make tints and shades to paint an object to make it look three-dimensional. In maths, the children used their knowledge of written methods of multiplication to complete word problems and link times table facts to create families. At Forest School on Tuesday, the children learnt how to safely move wood from one side of the site to the other. They were them showed how to handle and use a bow saw correctly. In science, the children investigated the changing states of water by handling ice, watching water boil and seeing water vapour cool into water droplets. They had lots of questions about the subject and are looking forward to investigating materials further over the coming weeks. The children enjoyed their history lesson this week and they were asked to sequence the historical periods of early civilisations on a timeline. The children then researched the locations of these civilisations and recorded them on a world map. Finally, some of the children took part in the Wyre Forest School Sport Partnership Swimming Gala today in a series of traditional races and fun activities. The children showed great effort and resilience and Mr Tasker and Mrs Johnson were very proud of their efforts. Well done!

Year 5

This week, Year 5 have been working incredibly hard in all areas of learning.

In Geography, the children have been developing their map skills by exploring grid references. They carefully plotted different coordinates to locate countries within Mesoamerica, using their knowledge of atlases, compass directions and map features to support their learning. Year 5 showed great concentration and accuracy when identifying and recording the correct locations.

In RE, the children created thoughtful and informative leaflets all about Baptism. They explained clearly why Baptism is important for Christians and how it is the first step in joining God’s family. Year 5 considered how to present their ideas in a way that would be suitable for younger children, using clear explanations and key vocabulary to teach others about this special sacrament.

In English, Year 5 have written some beautiful descriptive paragraphs inspired by The Way Back Home. The children imagined what it would be like to be stranded on the moon and used powerful modifiers and “show, don’t tell” techniques to create suspense and atmosphere. Their writing included carefully chosen vocabulary to build tension and help the reader picture the lonely, unfamiliar setting.

In PE, Year 5 have continued their gymnastics unit. The children have been working on creating choreographed routines, thinking carefully about how to link different movements together smoothly and safely. They explored balance, control and coordination as they practised performing sequences with increasing confidence.

Well done to all of Year 5 for another focused and productive week of learning.

Year 6

Year 6 have had a very busy and successful week, with lots of exciting learning taking place!=

In English, the children have continued their work on Pig Heart Boy. They have written a flashback to include in their retell of Chapter 4 of this fabulous book. The children showed great understanding of the characters and themes, producing thoughtful and imaginative pieces of writing.

In Art, the children explored the work of David Hockney and had a go at recreating one of his oil paintings ‘My Parents’ using photography. They also looked at the work of the amazing artist Paula Rego. Using her artwork The Dance, the children discussed what they thought the image could be about before using it as a stimulus for writing. Paula Rego was a storyteller through her art, and the children told their own creative stories inspired by her fabulous work.

In Maths, the children have started to explore algebra. This is a challenging topic, but they have worked incredibly hard and have done extremely well. Their perseverance and positive attitude have really shone through.

In Science this week, Year 6 investigated the effect that different types of exercise have on heart rate. Although it was exhausting, it was very interesting to collect and analyse the results, and the children demonstrated excellent scientific enquiry skills.

This week also marked the first week of Year 6 booster sessions. A big well done to all the children for their positive attitude and approach to these sessions. Thank you to all parents and carers for your continued support with dropping off and collecting the children at different times — it is very much appreciated.

Well done, Year 6, for another fantastic week of learning! 🌟
