2 December 2022

Dear Parents and Carers

As you are aware, on Tuesday and Wednesday we received an OFSTED Inspection led by two of His Majesty’s Inspectors. The outcome of the inspection will be shared with you as soon as the letter is published. But I would like to take this opportunity to say how proud we are of your children, their behaviour, their attitude and their beautiful manners. Also to all our staff and Governing Body who work so hard both before and during the inspection. We are very grateful to all the parents and carers who contributed so positively to Parents View and for their constant support. It means a great deal. Thank you.

The KS2 Christmas Carol Service will take place this Tuesday 6 December at 6.30pm at St Wulstan’s Church. The children will need to wear full winter uniform and be dropped off at the church between 6.10 and 6.20 pm. The staff will then take responsibility for the children so that you can take your place in the church. Today Years 3,4,5 and 6 walked down to church for a final practice. The children sang and read beautifully so we are sure Tuesday night will a wonderful start to Christmas celebrations

The Reception and KS1 Nativity play will be performed on Monday 12 December at 2.15 pm and again that evening at 6.30pm. The performances will last approximately 35 minutes. Costumes need to be in school by Friday 9 December at the latest. Could the children please return to school at 6.00pm on the evening of the 12 December for the performance to start at 6.30pm.

It was wonderful that so many of our school joined us at the Three Kings Parade last Friday. It really was a lovely traditional family occasion and a wonderful atmosphere, thank you. The photographs below illustrate a small part of the atmosphere!

Thank you to everyone who has replied to say they will be attending our 'Book and a Biscuit' morning. A reminder that the reading time will be from 8.50 -9.30 am. Afterwards Mrs Tasker will be running a small workshop in the hall on reading for pleasure and reading comprehension skills across a range of abilities. Teac and coffee will be provided and Mrs Tasker will then be available afterwards if yiou would like to discuss reading further. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

We are very aware of both cost of living and environmental concerns so we feel it would be lovely this year if the children rather than send everyone a card just send in one card to the whole class. The children can read out their card and messages to their class mates and then pin them up around their class Christmas tree.

Thursday 15 December is our Christmas Party Day- a major highlight in the life of St Wulstan’s children (and staff!) Children come in their party clothes and an exciting day of festivities ends with a gift from a very special person! Please remember lunch is sausage and chips all provided by school so your child will not require a packed lunch or hot meal order on that day.

On Friday next week, 9 December, we have ‘Christmas Jumper Day’. We don’t wish anyone to go to the expense of buying a special jumper and if your child doesn’t already have one any jumper can be customized with a bit of imagination and a bit of tinsel. The children will still need to wear their school skirts or trousers with the jumper just replacing their school jumper.

We would like this to be a charitable event to support those less fortunate than ourselves. As you know we do support the local food bank and we ask for a dried food or tinned donation. We hope this will allow all of us to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Apparently the foods in short supply are: tinned goods, for example, rice puddings, custard, fruit, corned beef, ham, spam, spaghetti, macaroni cheese, potatoes, peas, carrots, sweetcorn. Other items: long grain rice, jam, squash (dilute), small jars of coffee, curry and pasta sauces, milk, shampoo, deodorant, razors, shaving soap, washing  powder, toilet rolls, tin openers. Many thanks for your support.

Also on Friday 9 December, the whole school will be taking part in Kemp Hospice's Rudolph Run. The whole school will be running a few laps of the school field in order to raise money for Kemp. There is a Just Giving link below for anyone who would like to make a donation.

On Monday, our School Sports Organising Crew introduced themselves to the school. They delivered a well organised assembly, sharing their personal experiences in PE and their role as young leaders this year. We look forward to sharing some of our games and activities over the course of the year with you.

This morning our Year 4 children took part in a KHO KHO Festival with other schools in our sports partnership. A population game played in India, the children had the chance to develop their agility, teamwork and decision making skills. They had a lovely time and demonstrated many of the School Games Values we promote at St Wulstan's. Well done children!

Wulstan's Lodge will be running Holiday Club over some of the Christmas break. Please see below for further information.

We wish everyone an enjoyable weekend with your families as we prepare for the lovely Christmas season
