 Dear Parents

Tuesday was a very important day for our Year 6 children as they were confirmed by Canon David Evans. The Mass was really lovely with the children reading and singing absolutely beautifully; they also showed great reverence having been extremely well prepared to receive the Sacrament. The staff are all proud of our young people who are such a credit to their parents and their school.. So many staff and Parish members helped to make the evening go so smoothly and I would like to thank them all, but special thanks must go to Mrs Freitas whose work preparing and supporting the children has been exceptional. I would also like to thank Mrs Mallison for the beautiful music. Deacon John said how proud he was of our young people and we thank him and Fr Richard for their support and guidance during the children’s preparation. Finally, a big thank you to the children who came to support their friends and sing in the choir and to our altar servers.

Fr Richard rang this week to wish the Year 6 children well on Tuesday evening and also to thank them for the card they sent wishing him a ‘Happy St Wulstan’s Day’. Father continues to make good progress in his recuperation and we look forward to his return to the parish and school.

This morning Mrs Tasker and Mrs Berry accompanied a group of Year 2 children to a multi skills workshop as part of our involvement with the Stourport Sports Partnership. They were also accompanied by some of our Year 5 children who were developing as Young  Sports Leaders. We were delighted to witness how engaged all the children were in their activities and the confidence and maturity shown by the older children. Well done children!

This afternoon our Minnie Vinnies Team met with Mr Miastowski, Assistant Principal at Hagley and members of the Hagley B’Attitudes. During the afternoon they worked together to create toiletry packs for distribution to the homeless of society in Worcester. The time and the generosity shown by all the children will have a significant impact on many people. Our thanks to Hagley staff and students for their involvement with Mrs Freitas and our children.

Football Club has started this term and Mr Tasker is delighted with the enthusiasm the children have shown already. As they develop their team skills Mr Tasker will organize some friendly matches with local schools as well as preparation for the CTA competition in March. Thank you for your support and also to Mr Tasker for running this club.

A reminder that the postponed ‘On Line Safety’ presentation for parents is this coming Wednesday 29 January at 6.30pm in the school hall. Over the last year I have met with several parents over concerns about their children’s use of the Internet at home. Children can very easily access inappropriate sites and equally worrying it is just as easy for predatory adults to access them through games and You tube. Parents frequently say they didn’t realise the risks their children were exposed to when they thought they were watching Youtube clips or linking up with ’friends’ online. Whilst we teach E safety at school we have been asked to provide support for parents. Last July, PC Simon Gallagher came into school to speak to Year 6 and brought to light exactly what many children are exposed to not only on computers but obviously on their phones. I would ask as many parents as possible to attend this meeting which should last no more than an hour. Even our very youngest children are at risk in an electronic world that is changing so very quickly.  Thank you for your support.

The Year 5 Pyramid Concert is now less than a month away so please ensure you have purchased your tickets. This is a fabulous experience for the children and a great night out as a parent. We are all looking forward to it Year 5! A letter is in the children’s book bags tonight regarding tickets for coach travel for parents.

As we begin the new school year there have been further updates to the information on the school website class pages. This term’s curriculum letters and some new photographs of the children have been added so please log on and have a look. Dates for this term have also been updated. Please see the calendar tab on our website for further important dates this term.

Booking for Spring Parents Evening is now available via the school life app so please check your diaries. We look forward to seeing you.

Could I end today by asking again to please park both safely and with consideration to our neighbours. This week I have been contacted by parents about the dangerous parking of  vehicles on the double yellow lines and with complete disregard for the children’s safety signs. Please do not park on pavements or corners which endangers children and parents lives as they walk to school. Please ensure you leave ample room for local residents to access their driveways. Thank you again to the vast majority of parents who do park considerately and safely.

 Wishing everyone a lovely weekend
