Dear Parents

I would like to start this week’s newsletter with a massively deserved thank you to the PTA for last night’s Christmas Fayre. It really was a lovely evening which was clearly enjoyed by everyone who attended. There has been a tremendous amount of time and effort put in over the last few months by many people. I am reluctant to name specific people as everyone has worked so well as a team and I fear I may leave someone out. However I am sure you join me in thanking everyone involved for creating an evening that reflects the family atmosphere of our lovely school. I am very aware that we rely heavily on your generosity and understand Christmas is a great expense for everyone. Funds raised since September amount to £1400 which added to the funds raised over the academic year will enable us to go ahead with the purchase of a playground ‘trim trail’ in the new year. Thank you also to the many children who came to sing and Zennor’s dancers who entertained families as they tucked into their festive food! Many thanks again.

We are indebited to all of the local companies who have supported the school through donations. To have such community support is invaluable and means a great deal to us. I have included a list of all the donors at the end of the newsletter and hope we too can support them with local shopping and keep the spirit of our town which we all witnessed at last week’s Three Kings Parade.

Advent and Christmas preparations are now under way .The Reception and KS1 Nativity play will be performed on Tuesday 10 December at 2.00 pm and again that evening at 6.30pm. The performances will last approximately 35 minutes. Costumes need to be in school by Friday 6 December at the latest. Could the children please return to school at 6.00pm on the evening of the 10 December for the performance to start at 6.30pm.

The KS2 Christmas Service will take place on Wednesday 11 December at 6.30pm at St Wulstan’s Church. The children will need to wear full winter uniform and be dropped off at the church between 6.00 and 6.10 pm. The staff will then take responsibility for the children so that you can take your place in the church. On Tuesday 10 December Years 3,4,5 and 6 will walk down to church to practice. We will return to school for the end of the school day at 3.30pm.

I have said before there can be a misconception that only Catholic children can apply to our school. We welcome applications from all families of all or no faith. If you know of any families who are presently applying for a school place please encourage them to contact me to arrange a visit and tour of the school. Applications for Reception Class 2020 must be completed online by 15 January 2020. If you require any assistance please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Brown in the office.

A reminder that we have launched our new St Wulstan's Facebook page. There will be frequent postings sharing and celebrating the many activities that go on within the school day and beyond. We hope you enjoy seeing these postings as much as your children are enjoying their learning and experiences. To visit the page go to https://m.facebook.com/stwulstanscatholicprimary

Also the children’s class pages and calendar dates on the school website are constantly being updated. If you have not looked recently the website address is https://stwulstans.sch.life Here you will be able to see photographs of the children’s day, their year group curriculum, newsletters and school information. We encourage you to log on frequently as the website has all relevant school information.

Tickets are now available for the Year 5 Pyramid Concert on February 13 at Birmingham Town Hall. Please submit ticket orders to Mrs Brown in the school office. Mr Mallinson was in yesterday filming the Year 5 children for their introduction video which you will see on the night. The children were very excited and this enthusiasm certainly comes across in the film.

Thank you to all the families who are attending the British Police Symphony Concert next Saturday December 7. In order that the children going will gain the most from the concert, Mr West and two colleagues will be in school next Friday morning to show them some of the musical instruments they will hear. Mr West would like to extend the invitation to parents or grandparents who will be accompanying us. The Assembly will start at 9.15 so please join us then if you can. It promises to be an exciting day out and Mrs Edwards and I are looking forward to joining you on the trip.

Fr Richard has had his operation this week and now begins a lengthy period of recuperation. Please continue to remember him in your prayers. Thank you to our Year 3 parents for their understanding in postponing First Reconciliation until the new year.

We hope you have a lovely weekend especially if you are Christmas shopping

Great excitement on Year 1 as a hot air passed overhead at playtime! Very apt as they study the sky and weather this term.

Our Year 6 children supporting their Reception class buddies in reading.
